AN EXTREME TRAIL FOR A REAL ADVENTURE.
GEA Bike Trail was born because of a dream. The goal was about completing the whole Apennine ridgeline by bike on the course of the legendary GEA, the Great Apennine Excursion.
The GEA was conceived by Gianfranco Bracci and Alfonso Bietolini in 1981 and opened in 1983 with Reinhold Messner, the world famous mountaneer, who walked it like a training for the 8000 peaks.
33 years later, after studies and one year scouting the itinerary by bike to verify every single segment, the Great Apennine Excursion is, since July 9, 2016, for the first time in history, a rideable MTB path.
The original course was 60% rideable, now it is 95% rideable.
The Apennine ridgeline path, from Arezzo to Zum Zeri (MS) and finally to Monterosso, 5 Terre, 6000 km and 22.000 m of elevation, through 10 natural parks, with 37 passes.
Foreste Casentinesi National Park and Appennino Tosco-Emiliano National Park, UNESCO World's heritage, the Tiber valley, Mugello, Orecchiella Park, Gigante park, the 100 lakes Park, 5 Terre National Park.
An unexpected ultracycling route, tough, spectacular, unique, wild.
The GEA bike trail is not a race, it's an unsupported trip for pioneers, it will be challenging for your body and your bike, but most of all it will challenge your determination.
Every biker will have a GPS track to ride by bike and an accommodations list with refuges, b&b, Hotels, with contact infos, in order to know what you will find on the course and manage your trip.
Every biker will be geolocalized.
No other outer support is allowed, only public shops to buy things, no feeding points, no technical support, no timing.
Riding time from sun rise to sunset, overnight riding is forbidden for safety reasons. No stages, every biker can freely manage the stages.
The trip goal is not the finish line, it's the feeling along the way. Riding the GEA bike trail will be an incredible experience.
You can ride it whenever you want between July and September, just subscribe and start your adventure!
